We open the “Interview” section with the San Francisco based illustrator Hannah Stouffer, one of the 45 artists published in BOLO 1. In her work, feminine decorative embellishments are counterbalanced by macabre motifs, the animal kingdom, and the never-ending pursuit of illustrating explosive emotional transcendence.  Stouffer is best known for the incongruity of intricately executed imagery and shadowy and ethereal themes. Stouffer has maintained a strong presence in the illustration world while simultaneously exhibiting her work as both a commercial and fine artist.

What is your first browser page?
Gmail, Juxtapoz and Juxtapoz admin (I’m the illustration and erotica editor for the Magazine) and my RSS feed of like 1000 different blogs.

Which artist/designer do you like the most?
I have a lot of favorites, currently Killian Eng takes the cake. Love, love, love his glowing futuristic nostalgia.

Why do you prefer a printed magazine/book instead of a digital one?
Absolutely. I love anything tangible and analog over something I have to look at on my computer screen.

Give us a percentage of how much is your work analog/digital.
75%/25% Always more analog, I try not to convert things to digital unless I have to… I really lust after the quality of the hand drawn line.

What’s your next project? Speak us about what are you planning in the future.
I have a 3 person show in Los Angeles in October at R&R Gallery that I’m pretty excited about. I also have a handful of secret commercial jobs going, in addition to a new San Francisco edition Nike Running shoe that should be out any day now.

Your favourite city? Why?
If I could live in 6 houses all over the world, I would. SF/LA, New York, Miami, Berlin and Tokyo- oh and a beach house in Mexico- Ixtapa or something.
