About This Book The Age of Collage is a striking documentation of today’s continued appetite for destructive construction. Showcasing outstanding current artwork and artists, the book also takes an insightful behind-the-scenes look at those working with this interdisciplinary and cross-media approach. The collages featured in this book are influenced by illustration, painting, and photography and play with elements of abstraction, constructivism, surrealism, and dada. The collages featured in this book are influenced by illustration, painting, and photography and play with elements of abstraction, constructivism, surrealism, and dada. Referencing scientific images, pop culture, and erotica, they reflect humanity’s collective visual memory and context.
Through confident cuts, brushstrokes, mouse clicks, or pasting, the work in The Age of Collage gives the impossible a tangible form. It expands the possibilities of the genre while turning our worldview on its head along the way.

The technique of collage fits perfectly into our current age. Raw visual material is collected by an artist and then combined in such a way as to abstract the individual elements enough that the artist’s own vision becomes prominent. Because collage’s references range from other artistic works and techniques to scientific images, pop culture, and erotica, these raw materials reflect humanity’s collective visual memory and context.

It’s collage’s broad scope—and irreverence—that make this technique so interesting for both artist and audience. So it comes as no surprise that a lively scene has developed around contemporary collage in the last few years. Our book Cutting Edges was the first to document work by this scene, which has continued to expand the possibilities of the genre.

Beyond the lowbrow movement, which brings a fresh perspective to figurative surrealism, more and more established artists are now embracing this medium. Their work bridges the historical gap between the classic pioneers of the technique from the 1920s and today’s vanguard of contemporary collage.

For nearly 2 weeks, the entire New Holland pop-up gallery will be transformed into the FAMILY BUSINESS space, representing the art, environment and energy that the Family have been cultivating on a New York City street. TAMIZDAT will present to the St. Petersburg public around 400 text-based, self-published art pieces from all over the world in the spirit of sharing these unique and highly original text-based, self-published art pieces. The pop-up gallery will be painted from the outside by the graffiti artist SWAMPY.

TAMIZDAT is a Russian term refering to a key form of dissident activity during the Soviet era in which individuals reproduced censored, foreign publications by hand, and passed the documents from reader to reader. We would like to revisit that strong Russian tradition of self-published, paper- based products that lead to the democratization of information, where every person can make a book or a magazine expressing their thoughts and ideas, with a creative touch.
The art exhibition is curated by Victoria Yee Howe; the program is curated by Victoria Yee Howe and
Daria Irincheeva.

“Deck ov Doom is a personal project by Alessandro Crippa developed under the supervision of Alberto Bettinetti and printed with BOLO Lab. Originated as an academic project of graphic design/illustration, it developed in unexpected ways giving birth also to an installation. The concept was to produce a modern and personal re-interpretation of Maior Arcana taken from the traditional tarot deck of Marseille. The style of illustration focuses on the relevance of symbols: each card is characterized by two simple elements which help the reader to recognize the arcana and understand its power. The main figure represent a re interpretation of the subject of the card, which could be focusing on its personality or it could be an allegory of its meaning. This fanzine collects the resulting images produced for the deck, trying to give birth to a modern and (I hope) interesting interpretation of this classic theme. ”
